Resolutions Redux

Last year I plagiarized and shared a family tradition from a colleague of mine. The resolutions and tradition is summed up simply; commit to doing these things each year, and then you recount the tale with your friends & family at the New Year. So here goes…

Go three places you’ve never been…

  • Germany. I was lucky enough to visit Schwetzingen, Heidelberg, Kaiserslautern, Garmisch, and Munich. I had a wonderful time in this old and rich country. What nice people.
  • Augusta, GA. Georgia was an interesting place to visit.
  • San Antonio. I’ve been to The Great State of Texas several times, but never to San Antonio. The riverwalk was great.

Do two things you’ve never done…

  • Break a board; with my hands/feet. Despite my training in martial arts when I was younger, I’d never done this. I broke 2, actually; one with a front kick, one with a punch. Very satisfying.
  • <> No, it’s nothing bad, just one of the areas I do not discuss publicly. Too many people are quick to blather about things that need some thoughtful introspection before sharing; religion, love, politics… I made a choice this year to consciously go against my previous behavior in a certain area. It made no impact that I could tell, but it was significant to me that I found the courage to do this. Fate was kind enough that I didn’t regret my choice.

Eat something you’ve never eaten…

  • All sorts of stuff in Germany. ‘wursts are great. I always had this American preconception of ‘liverwurst’…yuck. I had no clue. Yum!

Give something away you’d rather keep…

  • Another private one, sorry. Suffice to say, it’s a personal thing with my family. Lame to you all, probably, so I’ll keep it out of this forum.

I do hope you find inspiration in this list and steal it outright, as I did with Art, or use it to inspire other ways to expand your horizons and grow as a member of the community on this little ball of dirt and water we call ‘Earth’.

Happy New Year.
